"Hmm. Everything else looks like an Elantra... let's try that!"

Kinja'd!!!

Seriously, despite whatever faults the Volt may have had, it definitely looked somewhat striking. Not as much as the concept promised, but still. When you saw a Volt, it made you think "huh."

This... this is just boring. It has to be one of the least distinct looking car out there.

It really does look like an Elantra. Which, to me, isn't really a good thing. I love the way the current Volt looks. Maybe I can find a good deal on a used one someday. They seem to be doing alright reliability-wise.

Mine has been great reliability-wise. The electric part of the drivetrain has an 8-year 100,000 mile warranty too. I'm into mine for 2 years and 30,000 miles so far, a few software updates but no major problems.

All I can think of when I see that is an Elantra or 200.

Well I'm sure the biggest drawback to many normal car buyers (not the enthusiast crowd who mostly wouldn't go for this anyways for a variety of reasons) was the fact that it looked "different". People don't want to stand out in a crowd, they want to blend in. They'll buy a car that looks like a car over something that looks like a spaceship. It is where Tesla and the newer gen Prii have gotten it right, as they're different enough for you to tout yourself being different, but not so much that everyone on the highway will stare (like in an i3/i8/early Prius/Gen1 Insight).

Also, the low 3/4 angle shot of a black car on a dimly lit stage taken with a cell phone isn't exactly the most flattering angle.

I really don't mind the look at all. The biggest complaint I've heard is that the A pillar is a bit thick, and obstructs vision more than it really needs to. Hopefully they've remedied that a bit.

I'm also hoping that the new Volt drives down used Volt prices. I've been keeping my eye on them. Around here (southern Alberta), they still are around the $25-26k mark. There's a few salvage title ones in the bay area (California) that are going for $16k. By the time it'd be imported up here, it would still be in the low $20k range, which is a bit more than what I'd like.

I guess I'm the odd-ball. I think it looks pretty decent. I almost see a bit of Acura RSX in there - sort of hunched over look.

Surely Paul Wall will do their advertising, since Grillz are his thing.

I never thought the RSX looked that good either. *shrug*

I know -why- it happens. Everyone's using the same fuel-efficient shapes as everyone else. I still dislike it.

If they want to make the Volt sell better they need to make it comparable price-wise to a comparable vehicle in size. If the Volt is the size of a Camry, price it like a Camry. Making it look like everything else won't hurt sales either. I say it's a step in the right direction.
